After breaking its U.S. annual sales record by October, Subaru looks to build off that momentum in 2014 with the debut of the all-new 2015 WRX STI in Detroit.
The standard WRX model, which debuted in Los Angeles in November, was already a hit among enthusiasts thanks to its sleek design, and the STI model looks to be no different.
The 2015 STI sets itself apart with its rally-inspired performance and handling powered by a 305-horsepower turbocharged boxer engine. It also had the best power-to-weight ratio in its class.
For its improved handling, the all-new STI sports sharper steering and a more powerful linear braking system. It also features a driver-controlled differential with six different settings.
Also announced at the Cobo Center was the limited availability Launch Edition of the 2015 WRX STI. Only 1,000 units will be produced of this exclusive version of the STI, which features gold wheels and a larger performance wings, among other tweaks. The Launch Edition will go on sale along with the standard STI, but will only have a three-month availability.
Both versions of the 2015 WRX STI will be available starting in August. While the vehicles have no set MSRP yet, Subaru says it will be inline with the current STI.
Subaru also announced the return of the world-renowned Travis Pastrana to its racing team during its press conference at the 2014 North American international Auto Show. He rejoins a team that already features current Rally Champion David Hagan.
