With the press days of the 2014 North American Auto Show kicking off on Jan. 13, The Driving Life previews some of the most anticipated models that will debut at the Cobo Center in Detroit.
BMW will be one of the busiest manufacturers in Detroit thanks to the world debut of three vehicles at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. The German auto giant will be revealing the all-new 2 Series Coupe, M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe during their official press conference at the Cobo Center.
The all-new BMW 2 Series is the follow-up to its predecessor, the BMW 1 Series Coupe, only larger. The 2-Series will be offered in two trims, 228i and M235i, and is expected to launch in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2014. The BMW 2 Series Coupe is rear-wheel drive, with longitudinally mounted engines, near-perfect 50-50 weight distribution, and sophisticated chassis technology. Double-pivot spring strut front suspension and five-link rear suspension are tuned specifically to each 2 Series model. Dynamic Stability Control system including Dynamic Traction Control with an electronic locking function for the rear axle is standard on all models.
The all-new 2015 BMW M3 and first-ever 2015 BMW M4 are equipped with an all-new 3.0-liter inline-6 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, delivering 425 horsepower 0 to 60 mph acceleration in 3.9 seconds when equipped with the optional M-DCT transmission. Both are also the first BMW M cars to see a reduction in curb weight from one generation to the next, as well as increased performance levels that distinguish them from previous generations of the M3 family.
BMW will also feature other models that made their world debut elsewhere: BMW i3, BMW i8, BMW X1 and the BMW Z4 in Ivory White Burnt Sienna.

The i3 will offer interior space comparable to the 3 Series on a shorter overall body, ideal for driving in dense urban areas. The BMW i3 will be available in the second quarter of 2014 with a base MSRP of $41,350. The range-extender model will have a starting MSRP of $45,200.
The BMW i8 is also a first for BMW, serving ast the German automaker’s first plug-in hybrid 2+2 sports car. The sleek i8 features impressive accelerating power from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds with extremely low fuel consumption (estimated at up to 94 mpg) and emissions output. Like its i3 cousin, the i8 will be constructed primarily from lightweight carbon fiber through sustainable processes. It is also expected to hit the market in the second quarter of 2014 and will be priced at $135,700.
The 2015 BMW X1 will debut in the spring of 2014 at an MSRP of $31,825.
