During the week leading up to the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, The Driving Life will focus on the big news to expect from automakers, including vehicle launches and model updates.
In mid-December 2012, Honda announced it would debut a compact “urban SUV concept” in Detroit. A new model is expected, the Honda CUV, a crossover based on the Honda Fit subcompact platform.
Not much else is known about the concept. The vehicle was teased in a sketch along with the two-paragraph official press release. The only description given was that it is “a global concept model combining a sporty and dynamic SUV profile with a spacious, functional interior.”
American Honda Motor Co. aims to increase its overall sales by 18 percent by the 2017 fiscal year, and it looks to be upping the ante in the sub-compact market to pursue that goal. With the redesigned Fit, this upcoming CUV and an expected sedan also based on the Fit platform, it looks like Honda is going all-in against its competition from the Chevrolet Sonic, Nissan Versa, Ford Fiesta and Hyundai Accent.
