During the week leading up to the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, The Driving Life will focus on the big news to expect from automakers, including vehicle launches and model updates.
Even though the official unveiling is set for next week in Detroit, official photos of the 2014 Lexus IS 350 F Sport sedan have been leaked, debuting a bold, updated version of the outgoing IS. While difficult to glean exact specs from the released photos, it’s easy to see the new model is an updated, sportier version of the already-sleek outgoing model.
The front spindle grille is familiar and unmistakable as Lexus. This 2014 version, however, has two extra openings on the lower front fascia. The headlights are L-shaped LED daytime running lights, and the taillights are part of the new swooping character line of the 2014 IS model that begins just in front of the lower wheels, with both windows and taillights curving upward toward the rear of the car.
Even the steering and sitting position has a slightly sportier look, with a lowered seat hip point and steering wheel angle. The overall look of the 2014 Lexus IS is unmistakably bold and powerful, with a definitive presence on the road and showroom floor.
Reviewers point to the now-retired LFA as inspiration for the new IS model, with the instrumentation cluster as the obvious source. The dash-mounted analog clock and electrostatic temperature controls contribute to a stunning, sleep interior display, complemented nicely with a Rjoja Red color interior. Two other color combinations will also be available for consumers.
