After debuting aggressive, class-leading designs with the new Civic lineup at last year’s auto show, Honda’s big announcements for the 2016 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) included details on the all-new Civic hatchback finally hitting U.S. shores, the reveal of the Civic Red Bull Global Rallycross racecar, and that the 15th Honda Civic Tour will be headlined by pop phenomenons Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas.
The sporty and efficient Honda Civic Hatchback has been a long-coveted staple of Honda’s European division and it is finally coming to the U.S. later this year. The 2017 Civic Hatchback features a 1.5-liter, 174-horsepower turbo engine available with both CVT automatic and 6-speed variable transmissions, and 42 MPG EPA rating. The sleek body and utilitarian 5-door design is complemented by a stylish high-tech interior, featuring a spacious cabin, Display Audio touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay.
“The Civic Hatchback wraps the 10-generation Civic platform and five-door hatchback utility in emotional, Euro-inspired styling,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Offered with the first application of the 1.5-liter turbo engine paired with a manual transmission, this sportiest Civic to date will attract a whole new set of enthusiasts buyers to the model and Honda brand.”
Although the 2017 Civic Hatchback will be manufactured in the UK, the long awaited 5-door will finally allow North American consumers to slide into the driver’s seat when it launches in Fall 2016. More details are to be released as launch day grows closer.
The all-new Civic Red Bull racing car, created by Olsbergs MSE and Honda Performance, was also revealed in full livery to the excitement of motorsports fans. The all-new turbocharged 2016 Civic Coupe will compete in 2016 Red Bull Global Rallycross Series. Built from the chassis of a 2016 Civic Coupe, the race car will be more than capable of aggressive acceleration with over 600 horsepower. Fans can look for its debut on the track on May 21st in the first NASCAR Sprint Cup series event of the season in Phoenix.
The Honda Civic Tour will feature headliners Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas, kicking off in Florida in June. Fans will also have the opportunity to win a custom-designed and hand-signed Civic by Demi Lovato or a motorcycle customized by Nick Jonas. More info and rules for all sweepstakes can be found on HondaCivicTour.com.
Just like the first gentle days of spring tease of warmer weather to come, the Honda press conference has done much to stir up excitement for what is to come in the rest of 2016.
